Five of the
best: Dani Sordo

Dani Sordo's inclusion in the Ford World Rally Team's line-up on Philips Rally Argentina marks the latest chapter in the Spaniard's successful world championship career. Here are five of his best moments.

1: Sordo becomes world champion!

Daniel Sordo, as he was then better known, got the better of Guy Wilks and team-mate Kris Meeke and to win the coveted Junior world crown in 2005 on the back of victories on four of the six events he contested in a Kronos Racing Citroen C2 Super 1600.

2: First podium comes at home

Sordo took just four events in the WRC’s World Rally Car class to bag his maiden podium finish. Driving a Citroen Xsara WRC for Kronos, Sordo finished second in Spain to team-mate Sebastien Loeb in March 2006.

3: Gains in Spain

Having briefly led outright in Spain in 2007, Sordo completed the opening day of the Salou-based rally in 2009 heading Sebastien Loeb in the overall classification by 1.6s. Sordo was still in touching distance going into the final day just 1.5s behind Loeb but ultimately would finish second best to his more experienced Citroen team-mate.

4: Back on the podium with MINI

Sordo had been absent from the podium for almost a year when he bagged the first top-three finish for MINI’s John Cooper Works WRC with a standout drive on ADAC Rallye Deutschland, only his third appearance in the Prodrive-developed car.

5: Power Stage joy in Portugal

Although an electrical glitch on the opening night wrecked his hopes of a strong result on the recent Vodafone Rally de Portugal, Sordo hit back with a succession of fastest stage times including the quickest run through the rain-hit Power Stage (pictured by McKlein) to earn three world championship bonus points and doubtless convince Ford team management he’s the right man to replace Latvala in Argentina.
