EXCLUSIVE: P-G Andersson Q&A

EXCLUSIVE: P-G Andersson Q&A

Was it a late decision to enter Rally Jordan?
"Yes, just a bit! It was not originally in my plan for the year but I decided to try because it’s such a long time until Portugal. I thought it was better to do something in between so my name doesn't disappear altogether."

Does this mean you'll tackle a complete, seven-round, S-WRC campaign this year?
"The plan is to try to do the whole thing. We'll do at least four or five more and hopefully the rest of the ones in Europe, however I still need to find some budget. We have put in a team entry [with JM Racing] so I can send in other drivers if I'm not available, but for sure I want to go for the whole championship.

How much experience on gravel do you have with the Skoda? "None at all. I've never been on gravel in the Skoda, or any other type of Super 2000 car for that matter. I think it will be okay, though. I have done Jordan in a WRC car before, I know it’s a difficult event but I had some really good stage times there in 2008. Okay, we had a bit of bad luck but on the whole we were doing okay. I'm feeling quite positive about Jordan."

You're back with your former co-driver Jonas Andersson in Jordan. Is this a one-off reunion?
"Yes, I have my old co-driver back. It's just for Jordan to start with, because he still has a contract signed with Mads Ostberg for this year, but for Jordan especially I need Jonas because it's such a specialised rally. If I'm to do well there I have to be at 100 per cent."

Can you win Jordan?
"Absolutely. My approach everywhere is to win if I can."

What did you think of the S-WRC competition in Mexico?
"I followed it on the internet and I though that Michal Kosciuszko did very well. What surprised me most was how close the P-WRC cars were to the speed of the Super 2000s, but that might have been down to the altitude."

Who do you think will be your closest rival in Jordan?
"It’s a strong entry so I'm expecting a hard battle. It will be tougher on gravel with the other competitors than it was on snow, that's for sure. I reckon Kosciuszko should be quick there again, and Janne Tuohino and Jari Ketomaa are bound to be quick, too. We will see a really close battle for sure. Buy that's okay - when everybody is there it's easy to take points off all of them!"
