Cycling
legend
Merckx
makes
WRC visit

Five-time Tour de France winner Eddy Merckx experienced a thrilling sporting spectacle FIA World Rally Championship style when he visited ADAC Rallye Deutschland last weekend.

Merckx, regarded as one the most accomplished cyclists of a generation, was a guest of the Citroen Total World Rally Team. In addition to watching factory drivers Mikko Hirvonen and Sebastien Loeb in action on the all-asphalt stages of south-west Germany, Merckx visited the French squad at the central service area in Trier where he also met Citroen Junior driver and fellow Belgian Thierry Neuville (pictured right with Merckx).

Neuville’s team boss, Benoit Nogier, said: “He came to speak to Thierry and Thierry was very happy to see him and had a good discussion with him. It was a great, great honour for Citroen to have him here, he is a legend and one of the biggest champions in the story of the cycling, in fact all sports.”
