Cook is your
hero of 2012

Louise Cook is your hero, or rather heroine, of 2012. The Briton topped WRC.com's latest poll run to discover the hero of the year in this year's FIA World Rally Championship.

Her performance on Rally Italia Sardegna in October, when she completed the final day’s stages with a broken collarbone after she aggravated an old injury, landed her the most votes. She ran a campaign on social network site Facebook to encourage more people to vote for her and ended up with a winning margin of two per cent over Craig Breen with Jari-Matti Latvala next up in third place.

Breen returned to WRC competition mid-season following the death of his best friend and former co-driver Gareth Roberts to win the Super 2000 world title. Latvala was fastest on his first stage back in the WRC after he was forced to miss Philips Rally Argentina with a broken collarbone.

Other leading scorers included Ramona Karlsson and Nasser Al-Attiyah, who combined his WRC campaign with Citroen with claiming the skeet shooting bronze medal in the London 2012 Olympics.
