A round-up of the stories that are making the news in the WRC today:
Do you like Dick’s tattoo? With three weeks to go until Rally Finland, discussions in the WRC Facebook community are heading in some odd directions. Right now, the pros and cons of WRC tattoos are one of the big talking points.
WRC fanatic Dick Pihl from Sweden kicked things off with the unique leg art [pictured] that he had inked for the Acropolis rally 2012. Since then an assortment of other painful looking tattoos have been shared – one sketched by the reigning World Champion himself. Click here to have a look.
Volkswagen has been preparing for its home round of the World Rally Championship with five days of testing. With the pressure on for a good home result at Rally Deutschland (22 to 25 August) the manufacturer’s three drivers Sebastien Ogier, Jari-Matti Latvala and Andreas Mikkelsen put the Polo R through its paces on some classic German tests.
Testing was carried out at the Arena Panzerplatte and on the mixed concrete and asphalt routes around Veldenz in both wet and dry conditions. During the test Ogier was co-driven by Nicolas Klinger while his usual partner Julien Ingrassia is recovering from a collarbone fracture.
New WRC Live podcasts. The team have been busy since Rally d’Italia Sardegna and have added two new podcasts to the WRC.com Fanzone. In the first, WRC Live hosts Becs Williams and Colin Clark take the Ford Fiesta ST and the R5 rally spec model for a road test. The second is an interview with Volkswagen Motorsport Director Jost Capito about his driver strategy for Rally Finland. Click here to find them both.
