In preparation for the tenth round of the WRC later this month, Ostberg, who drives for the Qatar M-Sport team, took a dominant victory at the Norwegian championship Rally Telemark, while 2003 world champion Solberg came out on top in his Rallycross duel with Sebastien Loeb.
Ostberg, [pictured] the only WRC entry at Rally Telemark, was fastest on all 10 stages in his Ford Fiesta RS, to win by 2m53.3s from Anders Grøndal in a Subaru Impreza STi.
“Everything went according to plan and I very much enjoyed driving on all the stages,” said Ostberg. “It was a very good test before leaving for Rally Australia, and it feels good to go there carrying with me the good feeling I now have!”
Solberg meanwhile finished second at the FIA European Rallycross Championship round at Loheac in France. Driving a 600bhp Citroen DS3 SuperCar, Solberg was beaten in the final by fellow Norwegian Andreas Bakkerud.
Nine-time World Rally Champion Loeb was a special guest in Loheac in a DS3 SuperCar similar to Solberg’s. Loeb won one of his qualifying heats, however he missed out on a place in the final by just four tenths of a second.
British World Rally star Kris Meeke was another guest driver. He was fast all weekend in a Peugeot 208 but contact with other cars ultimately ruled him out of contention in the heats.
