of 2012?

Nasser Al-Attiyah: Not only did the Qatari ace claim his best finish to date in the WRC when he took fourth overall in Portugal, he also won the bronze medal in the skeet shooting section of the London 2012 Olympics. He ended the year by claiming his eighth Middle East rally title, no less.

Ken Block: Did his bit to keep the WRC in the public eye with his latest Gymkhana movie. Stunt driving through the streets of San Francisco, anyone? Such a shame he only managed three world championship appearances in 2012.

Craig Breen: Returned to competition a little more than a month after his best friend and former co-driver Gareth Roberts was killed in a crash. Despite suffering a huge accident on his first event back, Breen dug deep, won three events in succession and clinched the Super 2000 world championship aged 22.

Louise Cook: Battled through the pain barrier to complete the final day of Rally Italia Sardegna with a broken collarbone.

Francois Delecour: Handed the keys to his co-driver Dominique Savignoni (pictured in the foreground) for the final stage of Rallye Monte-Carlo, which the navigator had planned to be his last outing before retirement. The veteran driver also deserves praise for finishing sixth overall on the WRC season-opener.

Denis Giraudet: Made it through Neste Oil Rally Finland in agony after a heavy landing left him with back injuries from which he is still recovering following several operations.

Ramona Karlsson: Somehow managed to continue her Production Car world championship campaign despite her Mitsubishi Lancer being gutted by fire in New Zealand.

Jari-Matti Latvala: Scored a podium on his first event back after he broke his collarbone while cross-country skiing in his native Finland. He was actually quickest on the first stage of the Acropolis Rally.

Jarkko Nikara: Made ageing Mitsubishi go faster than it should have done in Finland, finishing 13th overall. He could have finished higher but for an early mechanical fault. He then overcame a dearth of knowledge of his MINI to excel on the final round in Spain.

Eliseo Salazar: Became the first driver in history to race in the Indianapolis 500 and the Le Mans 24 Hours, contest the gruelling Dakar Rally, qualify for the Monaco Grand Prix and compete on a round of the WRC when he took part on Philips Rally Argentina.
