The organisers of the Swedish Rally, round two of the WRC season, have announced a novel tribute to former world champion Colin McRae.
McRae is already honoured by having a spectacular jump on the Vargasen stage named 'Colin's Crest'. But this year organisers will award a prize to the driver who jumps the furthest distance at this point.
A spokesman explained: "We never knew for certain how far Colin jumped at this place, and it was only later we thought of keeping records. The first year we measured the jumps was in 2006 when Mikko Hirvonen leaped 40.8 metres (further than three Swedish buses parked nose to tail), but last year the conditions were not the same and nobody matched that distance. We know that Colin had jumped further but we will never know by how much!"
The prize will be awarded at the end of the event on the Sunday, at the Karlstad trotting track.
