A total of 60 cars crossed the start ramp of the Acropolis Rally of Greece on Thursday night at one of the world's most historic sites: the Parthenon.
But after the spectacular opening ceremony the proper competitive action starts today with six special stages in the countryside to the north and west of Athens.
Friday’s opening day got underway from 0815hrs when the first rally car checked out of the Tatoi service park in Athens.
Crews will tackle two loops of the same three stages today, split by a return to Tatoi for a 30-minute service. The day ends with a short Superspecial stage which runs right next to the service park.
Weather conditions started dry and bright, with a cloudless sky and a temperature on the first stage of 20 degrees Celsius at 0830hrs. The forecast is for another scorching day in Greece, with the temperature predicted to rise to 35 degrees by midday.
Road order for day one is based on positions in the drivers’ championship, which means BP-Ford driver Mikko Hirvonen will tackle each stage first, followed by Sebastien Loeb of the Total-Citroen team and Chris Atkinson of the Subaru World Rally Team.
Here’s the rest of the WRC class running order for Friday:
7. H. Solberg
8. P. Solberg
13. Al Qassimi
