Jari-Matti Latvala dropped from fifth to ninth place on SS9 when he rolled his Ford Focus close to the finish line.
Latvala said the incident happened as he approached a hay bale chicane just before the flying finish. “I had a wrong pace note and we came too fast into the chicane,” he explained. “I tried to avoid the bales by steering off the road into a field but unfortunately there was a ditch, and that flicked the car into a light roll.”
Despite the roll Latvala got his car back onto the road and completed the stage. At the remote service zone after SS9, Latvala said the damage was largely cosmetic. “Mainly it’s just bodywork and bumpers,” he said. “The rear diff fan broke but I think we can fix that. It should be fine.”
The stage caused no problems for the leaders, with Loeb taking his ninth consecutive stage win, followed by Duval, Sordo and Hirvonen.
