Per-Gunnar Andersson’s Suzuki SX4 WRC emerged from SS8 with rear-end damage which is likely to hamper his progress on the two remaining stages.
His car’s right-hand rear wheel was bent badly out of alignment, and the wheel hub damaged, after an impact with a concrete kerb on the outside of a left-hand hairpin corner.
Andersson, who was 11th overall, must drive his car through the 14km Birkenfelder Land stage before the first chance to do some repairs at the 15-minute remote service. But he’ll have to wait until after the Panzerplatte stage before a proper service back in Trier.
Sebastien Loeb was fastest through the stage, followed by Dani Sordo and Francois Duval. Sordo and Duval both said they were happy with their cars.
Mikko Hirvonen was fourth fastest, but unhappy with his performance. “That didn’t go so well, I’ve got out of my driving rhythm, he said, “I’m losing time because I’m pushing too hard and making lots of small mistakes.”
