Sebastien Loeb took another stage win on SS13, despite admitting that he had deliberately de-tuned his engine in order to preserve it for two forthcoming rallies.
In accordance with WRC technical regulations Loeb will use his Rallye Deutschland engine on October’s rounds in Spain and Corsica. And with a 43sec lead over his team-mate Dani Sordo, Loeb was confident enough to be planning for the events already.
“We’re doing okay, so we reduced down the engine power a bit to save it,” said Loeb. "We’re still working hard, and we have to keep the concentration up and a good driving rhythm, but so far it’s okay. But it’s not over yet. There’s one more long stage to go today and then we’ll see.”
Dani Sordo was second quickest through SS13, finishing three-tenths slower than Loeb, but ahead of Hirvonen and maintaining Citroen’s one, two formation.
Hirvonen was third, two seconds slower than Sordo, and reporting no problems. “I’m doing all I can,” said the Finn. “It felt okay in there, but I can’t match their times. Hopefully Sebastien will feel like dropping some more power later on - I wouldn’t mind.”
