Marcus Gronholm managed to break up the Latvala stranglehold on the top stage time spot on the final test of the day. The short super special held in Millennium Stadium, in Cardiff, provided the right atmosphere for the retiring double world champion to show a bit of the muscle he had been restraining most of the rally. His team-mate Mikko Hirvonen finished just 0.2 seconds behind him, and retains the lead heading into the final day of competition. Ever the showman, Petter Solberg put in a fast time for third before spinning out his Subaru and waving to the enthusiastic crowd.
Sebastien Loeb was fourth on the stage, just 0.1 seconds behind Solberg and holds onto third overall going into day three. Chris Atkinson held onto the lead for a good bit of time before falling down to fifth overall, 0.3 seconds behind Loeb. Atkinson now holds an even 10 second lead over Matthew Wilson for sixth overall. Sixth went to Dani Sordo, who completed the short test, just 0.1 second behind Atkinson. Manfred Stohl was seventh, just 0.2 seconds behind Sordo. Eighth went to Xevi Pons, an additional 0.8 seconds back.
