After another fourth fastest time on SS12, Stobart Ford team driver Francois Duval has admitted his battle for the podium in Germany is over.
Duval began day two in fourth place, 13sec behind Mikko Hirvonen, but has slipped further behind the Finn as the day went on. At the end of SS12 the gap had increased to 27.6sec, which Duval believes is too much to make up on the stages alone.
“The feeling in the car is better for me, but Mikko is a long way ahead now and for the championship it’s more interesting for him to keep third,” said Duval. “For now on it’s important for me to take the opportunity learn the car for the rallies in Spain and Corsica.”
The top three completed the stage without incident, although Sordo admitted to a small mistake near the start. “I stalled the engine on a hairpin. I lost maybe five seconds but it’s okay - I was still faster than Mikko.”
