With metronomic reliability Sebastien Loeb was fastest through the repeated Bosenberg stage, stopping the clock just half a second off his earlier time.
Dani Sordo was his closest rival, two seconds further back, with Hirvonen third and Duval fourth fastest.
“It’s going perfectly, no problems,” Loeb said at the stage end. “I have a good rhythm and I’m taking no big risks. The most important thing for me is to stay concentrated and keep on like this.”
Sordo also reported no problems on the stage but said he had no answer to Loeb’s pace. “I don’t know how he’s doing it,” he said. “But for me it’s okay in my battle with Mikko. There was more gravel on the road than earlier, but the grip was okay.”
Hirvonen dropped another couple of seconds to Sordo and remained unhappy with his driving. “I thought I could get closer, and I was faster than in the morning, but it’s not fast enough,” he said. “My driving rhythm is better than the morning but the Citroens have more speed. I’ll continue to do all I can.”
Chris Atkinson said a promising run in his Subaru was ended by a tyre problem. “I think it would have been a good time but we picked up a left-hand front puncture about six kilometres from the finish,” he said.
