Citroen Total driver Dani Sordo says he’s aiming to snatch fourth place - and five championship points - from Henning Solberg on Sunday’s final day of Rally Turkey.
And the Spaniard admitted that rather than trying to catch Henning on Saturday’s penultimate stage, he elected to hang back and save the big push until Sunday when he will have a better road position.
“It’s not been a bad day at all,” said Sordo. “We had a puncture in the second stage, and my driving style still tends to be hard on the rear tyres, but apart from that everything’s been okay. I slowed a little near the end to try and keep fifth place overnight because I think one car ahead of me on the road tomorrow is better. I think it will be possible to catch Henning, but I don’t know; sometimes he can be very fast and maybe tomorrow will be one of those times!”
Reflecting on a difficult day in his Stobart team Ford Focus, Henning said he was still anticipating a good tussle with Sordo. “I’ve had better days,” explained Henning. “We some small problems and we the brakes on the last two stages but we are still in the fight and that’s the important thing. Tomorrow I will push hard - that’s for sure - I will try and keep fourth, otherwise you will see this orange car from a helicopter or something...”
