Suzuki World Rally Team driver Per-Gunnar Andersson missed most of today’s Rally Finland shakedown test after the engine in his SX4 World Rally Car failed.
The Swede was nearing the end of his first pass through the 3.76km stage when the incident occurred.
“There was no warning,” said Andersson. “For a moment it felt like it was losing power, then it dropped to just three cylinders. It’s certainly not the best start to the rally.”
After examining the engine in the service park in Jyvaskyla the team decided to replace it with a spare. This action is likely to result in a five-minute penalty for Andersson, although this won’t be known for sure until the event Stewards meet later today.
Team manager Paul Wilding said he hoped Andersson would be able to get his repaired car back to the shakedown stage before the session closed.
