questions
(part two)

Fans of the FIA World Rally Championship from across the globe sent their questions to Volkswagen Motorsport star Sebastien Ogier. Prior to Rallye de France Alsace he took time out of his busy schedule to give his answers to WRC.com.

Roger Espinoza, Peru: Would you have preferred that Sebastien Loeb participated on all rounds of the 2013 WRC? “It would be nice if he had left the target, the goal very high. We would have like to fight with him.”

Rafael Perez Lopez, Mexico: Do you believe you can one day win more world championships than Sebastien Loeb? “For sure it’s a really hard target. It will be really, really hard for anybody to do it. First I need to get one then we will see.”

Petter Olsen, Bryne, Norway: With Sebastien Loeb’s reduced WRC programme for next year taken into account, do you regret leaving Citroen? “No, I have no regrets. For sure I am happy to be in this new team. It’s the beginning of a nice story I hope and it’s very interesting for me, very challenging. No regrets for me.”

Thijs Mahieu, Belgium: What rallies do you think will suit the Polo R WRC most of all next year? “It’s difficult to say but the fact is we’re working to be performing on every single surface.”

Yakir Dalal, Israel: What victory was more exciting for you last year? Winning the Jordan Rally by 0.2s or beating Loeb in Germany after his eight years of dominance? “For sure there was more satisfaction in Jordan because it was the end of a very hard fight all the weekend. I had to open the road on the last day while conserving my lead and I had to push at more than 200 per cent all the time to keep this victory. It’s always a perfect feeling to get the victory in these conditions.”

Patrick Nabil Olinga, Uganda: How does the performance of the Polo R so far compare to the Citroen DS3? “We have to ask to Citroen if they want to give us a car just to compare, I would be very happy with that! It’s difficult to know right now. We know we are a little bit behind but we are working hard to try to reduce this gap. The goal is to be better.”

Aleksandr, Ukraine: Did you have a coach to tell you how to drive and what is the main secret behind your success as a driver? “I didn’t have really a coach, I learn by myself but I am always very aware to listen to some types of advice from different people. For example my gravel crew, Alex Bengue, was a good driver before and had much more experience than me so when I start on gravel he teach me the importance of small details and I listened to this. Sometimes I am doing with the French federation some drives on the circuits and I had some coaches to work on the tracks but never really in rally.”

Rui Madeiros, Azores: What are the main differences between the Polo R WRC and the DS3 WRC? “The main difference is the colour and the name of the car! To be honest the regulation is very tight for everybody so all the cars look quite the same at the end and the feeling is very similar. It’s difficult to say more at the moment.”

Tommy, Norway: I think you and Andreas Mikkelsen would be an amazing team. Is there any chance of seeing you two in the same team next year? “I think you are asking the wrong question but for sure, why not? He is young, he has proved he is fast but maybe he needs a bit more experience before racing for the official team.”

Goncalo Luis, Madeira: Based on what you experienced at the wheel of the Citroen DS3 and what you know about the Polo what position can you aim for next year starting from Rallye Monte-Carlo? “I would love it and I will try my best, like I always say, but it will be really hard. It will be the first race with this car. It’s my home event, I love this rally, I will try to do my best but it will be at the start of a new season and we should not drive crazy just to win this event. We have to think about championships and the whole year. But this year I was very comfortable on the stages in the Skoda and I hope it will be the same with the Polo.”

Sebastien Ogier will be back on WRC duty with Volkswagen on Rally Italia Sardegna this week. Meanwhile, don’t forget you can put your own questions to Sebastien Loeb.
