Loeb heroically recovered from being more than 1m40s off the lead after striking a bridge on day one to hold the advantage after Sunday’s opening stage.
Sadly another uncharacteristic mistake by the Citroen ace on the first run through Whaanga Coast on the final morning resulted in more time being lost and relegated him to an eventual third place on the high-speed gravel event, which Jari-Matti Latvala edged by 2.4s despite the fact the Ford pilot didn’t claim a single stage win.
Super Saturday earned 24 per cent of the vote with his ninth world title triumph on Rallye de France Alsace earlier this month getting 23 per cent. Loeb’s capture of all 12 stage wins on Tour de Corse in 2005 scored 18 per cent with his Rallye Monte-Carlo victory in 2003 against then Citroen team-mates Carlos Sainz and Colin McRae netting 12 per cent of the vote. Clinching his third WRC crown in 2006 despite missing four rounds with a broken shoulder attracted 10 per cent of votes.
