Petter Solberg becomes ambassador for peace

Petter Solberg has become the first ambassador for a global peace programme founded by HRH Prince Feisal Al Hussein of the Jordanian Royal family.

‘Peace Through Sport’ is a global initiative inspired and developed by Prince Feisal to encourage greater tolerance and understanding within conflicting communities.

Launched last year, Peace Through Sport operates programmes that bring together youth leaders from the world’s divided communities and train them to use sport to unite children in their regions.

At the official announcement in Jordan, Prince Feisal handed Solberg the campaign’s symbolic baton and explained why the 2003 World Champion was the man for the job.

“Petter embodies the values and spirit of Peace Through Sport,” said Prince Feisal. “And is himself the symbol of sportsmanship and a true champion who will be able to inspire and motivate others. We are delighted that he will work with us to pass on the message of peace to his huge number of rally fans around the world.”

Solberg said he was honoured to become an ambassador for the programme. “Sport is enjoyed by so many people across the world and we can see from the rallies how it brings people together,” he said. “I fully support HRH Prince Feisal’s inspiring vision for Peace Through Sport around the world and I really hope that I can help the programme.

“In the WRC we travel to 15 countries this year alone, and with fans and supporters across the world I hope I can make a difference. It’s important to me to give something back to the countries we visit, and Peace Through Sport has benefits everywhere so for sure I will carry the message with me,” he added.
