The organisers of Rally Japan have announced a new title sponsorship deal with the multinational Pioneer Corporation and its car electronics arm, Carrozzeria.
Rally Japan, round 14 of this year’s WRC, will run between 30 October and 2 November under the new name Pioneer Carrozzeria Rally Japan.
The new deal was announced at a press conference attended by Ichiro Kamoshita, the Japanese Environment Minister and head of the government body responsible for motorsports promotion.
At the conference rally organisers also confirmed a number of details about this year’s event, which for the first time will move from Obihiro to a new home in the fifth-largest city in Japan, Sapporo.
As expected the service park, rally headquarters and the Super Special Stage will all be located within the 41,500 seat Sapporo Dome stadium complex. But in addition to the Super Special, organisers also revealed another purpose built stage, known as ‘Shin-Chitose’ which will be used once on Saturday and again as the final stage on Sunday.
Based at an existing off-road track close to the city’s airport, organisers hope it will be a hit with spectators who want to watch the moment the winner is decided.
