The former world championship co-driver Sven Smeets has taken over the work of team manager for Citroen Sport, following the departure of Yves Matton.
Smeets, 35, competed in the WRC alongside fellow Belgian Freddy Loix between 1995 and 2004. In 2005 he partnered another Belgian, Francois Duval, and retired from co-driving after the pair took victory on the season’s finale, Telstra Rallye Australia.
In 2006 he joined Citroen Sport to help Matton, who was also responsible for liaison work with rally driver customers.
In 2007 Sven was in charge of the new "Junior Experience" project and towards the end of the year also began to help Matton in his official Citroen Sport work with the FIA.
"My new job started at the beginning of the year,” Smeets said. “I am the new Yves!”
Matton is expected to join Kronos Racing to run a two-car Peugeot team in the Intercontinental Rally Championship.
