With the Ford Fiesta RS WRC aces at loggerheads to finish third overall in the final drivers’ standings in Spain next month, Ostberg has followed Latvala’s lead by travelling to the Le Mans circuit in France yesterday (Wednesday) for a spot of driver training.

Although the 25-year-old Norwegian sensation has pretty much got it covered when it comes to driving on gravel and snow, he admits there’s still room for improvement where driving on asphalt is concerned.

Like Latvala, Ostberg enlisted the help of ex-IndyCar and Le Mans competitor Didier Andre (pictured right with Ostberg) and said the session in a single-seater racing car had been a big help.

“There are still areas where I have to improve but it was a step in the right direction and I learned a lot,” said Ostberg, currently third in the WRC table. “I already have a good understanding of the lines on Tarmac but we worked on how to brake into the corner, how late you can brake and how you optimise the braking and the throttle control. It’s not like a big boost for Spain because it was done in a single-seater and not my World Rally Car but it will definitely help.”

Ostberg, who drives for the privateer Adapta World Rally Team, is still trying to raise the funds to undertake a test before Spain where he will link up with co-driver Jonas Andersson for the WRC season finale.
