Subaru World Rally Team driver Petter Solberg is struggling to hold on to his third place because of a broken front suspension damper.
The Norwegian is being pressured by Citroen’s Dani Sordo, who has closed the gap to Solberg from 15 seconds after SS4 to just 0.4 seconds after SS7.
Petter’s co-driver Phil Mills confirmed the damper problem occurred during SS5. The Subaru pair still have to tackle another two stages, and more than 20 competitive kilometres before they can return to service for repairs.
“I’m doing everything I can but the problem means I can’t push too hard,” said Petter. “Something has broken inside the damper so there’s nothing we can do until we get back to service. It’s a tricky situation.”
