Aside from Federico Villagra’s sixth place on the Jordan Rally, the Munchi’s team is also celebrating the remarkable 12th place of substitute driver, Barry Clark.
Clark, winner of the 2007 Fiesta SportingTrophy International, was asked to stand in for the team’s second driver, Luis Perez Companc, after the Argentinean had to return home just before the start for business reasons.
Originally heading to the event to work as a mechanic on Villagra’s car, the 25-year-old Briton arrived in Jordan at 0300hrs on Thursday morning and drove his Ford Focus RS WRC07 for the first time at the Shakedown.
Having missed the pre-event recce Clark and the Munchi’s team stand-in co-driver Jose Dias made their own set of pace notes by copying Villagra’s.
“I still can’t believe it,” said Clark after the rally. “To get this opportunity at the last minute was amazing and to be honest it still hasn’t sunk in fully. I had a difficult job to do here and was under strict instructions to finish and we very nearly make the top ten! We just missed out on manufacturer points; that would have really been the icing on the cake. I found the stages quite demanding and not having any pace notes made it even harder. Now I’ve got a lot of confidence for my next rally with the team in Turkey.”
