Fisher turns up
the heat for
Greece debut

Alastair Fisher has prepared for his Acropolis Rally debut by spending time in a heat chamber in readiness for the high ambient temperatures expected on the punishing Greek event.

Fisher, from Northern Ireland, tops the FIA WRC Academy standings after winning the opening round of the season, Vodafone Rally de Portugal, in late March.

“I’ve been working hard on my fitness with Sport Northern Ireland which should see me well placed for the physical demands,” said the 23-year-old. “I’ve completed a number of fitness tests with them and also been lucky enough to have use of their heat chamber as well as working on my own fitness in the gym.”

While Fisher has done all he can to maximise his physical fitness, he is wary of the rough gravel roads he and co-driver Daniel Barritt will encounter when the rally gets underway on Thursday (24 May).

“There’s a lot of anticipation as we all know the reputation it has as one of the toughest events on the calendar,” said Fisher. “It is one of those events where anything can happen. It is important to have a good recce and you need to keep your head down, keep the concentration and stay out of trouble.”
