Duplessis
goes online
to raise
Finland
funds

Chris Duplessis has launched an online auction in a bid to raise the budget he needs to contest round three of the FIA WRC Academy on Neste Oil Rally Finland next week.

The charismatic American faces a funding shortfall as he attempts to contest the high-speed gravel event for the first time.

Auction items range from a Chris Duplessis t-shirt, a passenger ride in his DirtFish Ford Fiesta R2 and even a personal phone call from the driver after the event detailing how he and new navigator Alex Kihurani performed.

“If you live rally you know rally takes more than a new pair of sneakers, a new glove or new racket to succeed in the sport,” said Duplessis. “In fact, it takes everything you have: your money, your dedication, your love. To participate in four American rallies and two WRC Academy rallies this year, my beautiful wife and I have contributed over 60,000 dollars out-of-pocket, approximately 1,100 hours, and countless near 'breaking-points' to this sport. Team Duplessis is honoured to be a sponsored team, however, sponsored money only gets you so far. It was only after the shocking realisation that we had literally drained every bank account, spent every paycheck and depleted our retirement fund that we might not be racing in Finland. That realisation shook me to the core.”

He continued: “I have to be in Finland. I belong there. This is my race and because of the age cap on the WRC Academy, this is the last chance I have to show the world what I am capable of.”
