WRC Academy ace
leads home
championship

As well as taking part in this year's FIA WRC Academy, Elfyn Evans is also busy competing on rounds of the highly competitive British Rally Championship.

Last weekend Evans took part on the Pirelli International Rally, where he finished fourth overall and first in class to move to the top of the BRC drivers’ table.

Having finished second on his home championship last year, 23-year-old Evans is looking to do go one better in 2012 and claim the British title to follow in the footsteps of his father Gwyndaf, who won the coveted accolade back in 1996.

The British championship is made up of six rounds, and this year’s series marks the first time in more than a decade that two-wheel-drive cars are the only entries eligible to score points.

Competing in a Ford Fiesta R2, similar to the M-Sport prepared cars that are used in the WRC Academy, Evans has claimed three consecutive class victories this season. He has also finished in the top five overall on the first three rounds.

“It feels great to be leading the championship - especially in an R2 specification car,” said Evans. “I need to thank the whole team for providing me with a great car and getting me into this position.”
