Q&A:
Elfyn
Evans

Elfyn Evans made it three wins out of three in the FIA WRC Academy when he triumphed on ADAC Rallye Deutschland yesterday. He spoke to WRC.com following his latest success with co-driver Phil Pugh.

Another impressive victory Elfyn, how are you feeling? “I’m very happy, especially how today has gone. We had a difficult start yesterday to find a rhythm and the set-up of the car after shakedown was cancelled. It took a while and it was a lot more slippery than we expected. We had a couple of moments but we regrouped overnight, got our heads together and were able to build our advantage from then on. We’ve just concentrated on having a clean rally and I’m glad to be at the finish now. It’s another big boost for the championship.”

How hard has it been to keep that comfortable lead without making mistakes? “We’ve still tried to keep a reasonable pace without taking risks and silly cuts. It’s just been a case of management really. We’ve just done enough to keep the focus and get here. Certainly the stages have been very challenging this weekend.”

You were kept waiting before starting the final Arena Panzerplatte stage. What was that like knowing you were one stage away from winning? “Going in there knowing it’s the last stage but 46 kilometres wasn’t the easiest finish but we concentrated on doing a clean job and we’re glad to see the end of it. It wasn’t nice waiting with everything getting cold and you’re always a bit sceptical for the first few kilometres but we’ve managed to get through and we’re happy.”

It’s a pretty big championship lead you’ve got now. You must be pleased with that? “Brendan [Reeves] and Alastair [Fisher] had more bad luck this weekend so for our championship it’s good but I have more things I still want to develop, still want to work on and we’ll concentrate on doing our own thing and we’ll see what that brings at the end of the year.”

Have you thought much about the prize drives on offer and which one you’ll choose? “To be honest I’m concentrating rally by rally at the minute. Both are fantastic prizes and we’ll have to weigh up what the best option is. I’ve been driving Ford Fiesta R2s now for a long time and it would be nice to prove myself in [the Ford Fiesta S2000] but at the same time doing a full world championship campaign is a fantastic prize. But it’s far too early to think about that at the minute.”
