24/9/09 FIA reveals more calendar details for 2010Motorsport's governing body, the FIA, has announced further details of next year's World Rally Championship calendar, including the eligible rounds for the Junior and Production championships, and the brand new WRC cup for S2000 teams. The main WRC calendar is now finalised, and while the calendars of the support championships are still subject to ratification by the World Motor Sport Council at its next meeting on 21 October, further changes are unlikely. As reported on wrc.com on 17 September, next year's WRC calendar features 13 rounds, including a brand new rally in Bulgaria. As expected the proposed 11 July finish date for Bulgaria had been changed to avoid a clash with the FIFA World Cup Final which takes place on the same day. The rally will now finish on Saturday 10 July. And Bulgaria might not be the only rally to buck the WRC tradition of a Sunday finish. In 2010 event organisers have been given flexibility by the FIA to 'evolve the character of their events to create a unique flavour' by running over two, three or four days, and finishing on a Saturday or Sunday. Any other itinerary changes will be notified by rally organisers. The 2010 Junior World Rally Championship (J-WRC) is slimmed down slightly from this year's series, with entrants nominating five from six eligible rounds, compared to six from eight this year. Next year's Production Car World Rally Championship entrants must contest six rallies from nine, including at least two outside Europe. This year P-WRC entrants had to select six from eight. Only two rounds in 2010 - France and Germany - count towards both the J-WRC and P-WRC contests. Details of the brand new WRC Cup (for S2000 teams) have also been confirmed. Team must contest seven from 10 eligible events to take part, including at least two outside Europe. The WRC Cup calendar mirrors that of the P-WRC with the addition of Rally Portugal. 2010 WRC calendar (for simplicity Sunday is noted as the completion date of most rallies below - but event organisers can choose to finish on Saturday) 1.
