Rally Guanajuato Mexico

Heat, dust, gravel and - for a change - rain. This year's Rally Guanajuato Mexico certainly lived up to its reputation as one of the most challenging rounds of the season.

And alongside the challenge, it's one of the most spectacular rallies too, mixing rugged scenery with colourful towns and, this year, the historic centre of Mexico City.

To wrap up our coverage from Mexico, here's a selection of our favourite photographs from the rally taken by WRC snappers Jaanus Ree and Andre Lavadinho.

That's Stéphane Lefebvre's Citroën passing by the open door,  but did you spot Sébastien Ogier too? Have a look on the sideboard, next to Mini Mouse, to see a print of this same scene from 2016.

Water. And lots of it. Here's Elfyn Evans making waves at the pre-event Shakedown in Leon.

More water, this time 200 miles away in Mexico City. That's Jari-Matti Latvala's Toyota, two of them actually, in front of the Metropolitan Cathedral that dominates Zócalo square.

Below:
A hairy moment for Dani Sordo, when his Hyundai i20 Coupe near slips off the road.

We had to feature a cactus shot. Here's Juno Hanninen blazing through some uniquely Mexico scenery.

Between the stages, competitors drove 528km of road sections in Mexico. Here Lorenzo Bertelli and Hayden Paddon pass through a couple of villages on the route.
