Neste Rally Finland
The championship headed to Finland for round nine, to the fastest roads of the season and a stunning landscape of lakes and forests.
Finland is a classic in the WRC calendar, and a creative treat for our photographers who were yump and lake-side to catch the action. Here is a selection of our favourites from Jaanus Ree and Andre Lavadinho.
1. [Above] Suninen's crest
It's not really called Suninen's crest, but young Teemu is owning it here. Stomach-churning, roller-coaster crests and yumps are a signature of Rally Finland and add an extra vertical dimension to the challenge.
2. Lakes and cottages
Check and check. That's two more icons of the championship's Finnish counter in one shot. And Craig Breen's Citroën C3 of course.
3. The obligatory sauna
Finland is a nation of 5.3 million people and 3.3 million saunas. Here's a lucky local in one of them, enjoying a clump of birch twigs and the sight of Dani Sordo's Hyundai i20.
4. Deep forest
Here's another interesting fact: 73 per cent of Finland is classed as forest, and it ranks 12th in the world in the list of of tree-filled nations. Here's a small bit of forest from last week's rally, along with Juho Hanninen's speeding Toyota Yaris.
5. Jump king
There was no shortage of spectacular jump shots from Finland. It's just that sort of rally. However this picture of Mads Østberg is special. The Norwegian topped the rankings at the biggest jump of them all – the Yellow House Jump in the legendary Ouninpohja stage. Here he his midway through a 50-metre flight.
