• One of the more intelligent and articulate figures in the service park, he applies F1 levels of analysis to his development
The story so far
In 2005 Kubica became the first Polish driver to compete in Formula One. Between 2006 and 2009 he drove for the BMW Sauber F1 team. He won the Canadian GP in 2008, and finished fourth in the championship before a disappointing 2009 prompted a fruitful switch to Renault in 2010.
Passionate about motor sport in all its forms, the Pole spent the off-season competing in rallies. But on 6 February 2011, he was seriously injured when he went off at the Italian Championship Ronde di Andora rally.
After more than a year of rehabilitation, much of it focused on his right arm and hand, he returned to motorsport in September 2012, winning the Italian Ronde Gomitolo Di Lana rally – his right arm still bandaged.
