Szczepaniak’s motorsport career began in hillclimb events in his native Poland. But it was as a co-driver that he really excelled.
Now Poland’s most experienced WRC co-driver, Szczepaniak began his career in 1999 with a four-year stint alongside Tomasz Kuchar before working with another leading Polish competitor, Leszek Kuzaj. He switched to working with Kosciuszko in 2007, beginning a long association in the WRC Junior and production car championships.
A step up to the WRC class in 2013 started badly with a series of retirements in an unreliable Mini, and a switch to a Fiesta RS WRC came too late to salvage a decent season. With Kosciuszko’s WRC plans unclear, Szczepaniak became the natural choice to partner Kubica in 2014 following the retirement of his previous co-driver, Maciek Baran.
