Jan Tománek’s co-driving career is linked to two of the Czech Republic’s most successful drivers – Roman Kresta and Martin Prokop.

He began working with Kresta in 1994 and they developed their skills in a variety of privately-entered Skodas in the Czech championship, winning class titles in 1998 and 1999.

Skoda Motorsport provided them with an Octavia WRC in which they won the national title in 2000 and 2001, and a WRC programme followed in 2002, in which they finished seventh at Kenya’s Safari Rally.

Their partnership hit top gear in 2005 when they joined the BP-Ford squad for a WRC campaign. Tománek stepped down for medical reasons after two rallies, but was back alongside Kresta in the second half of the season.

He joined Prokop in 2006 and after twice finishing third in the Junior WRC, they won the title in 2009, a season in which they also finished second in PWRC.

They were third in SWRC in 2010 and 2011 and after a couple of years out of the car, they were reunited at the start of 2014 in a Ford Fiesta RS WRC. Fifth in Mexico was their best result.

It was a similar story in 2015, when Tománek and Prokop ended the season as the leading privateer crew and with a best result of fourth in Argentina.

Tománek’s 2016 campaign comprised just three early-season rounds before Prokop’s preparations for the 2017 Dakar Rally intervened, and he returned only for the late-year Spanish encounter.

In 2017 he will form part of a two-car team with Mads Østberg.
