One of the most experienced co-drivers in the business, Patterson has been competing in the World Rally Championship since 1993.
The list of drivers he has partnered reads like a Who's Who of British rally greats, and includes two McRaes (Jimmy and Alister), David Higgins, Gwyndaf Evans, Niall McShea and Kris Meeke. On the international scene he has co-driven for Nasser Al-Attiyah, Petter Solberg and his current driver Khalid Al-Qassimi.
His titles include the 1999 British Championship production class with Higgins, and four consecutive Middle East Rally Championship (MERC) wins from 2005 to 2008 with Al-Attiyah. He has also captured a world title, winning the 2006 Production Car Championship with Al-Attiyah
However Patterson really hit the big time in 2010, when he joined 2003 World Champion Petter Solberg at short notice on WRC round seven in Bulgaria following his former co-driver Phil Mills’ unexpected decision to step down. After a fine debut podium there, he and Solberg went on to clinch four more podiums that year, and another seven before Solberg retired from the WRC in 2012.
Patterson’s World Rally Car experience made him a natural choice to partner Al-Qassimi in a split programme of WRC and MERC events in 2014 and 2015, and the pair finished as runners-up in the Middle East Championship on both occasions.
Patterson remained at Al-Qassimi's side for more WRC events in 2016 and 2017 as part of the Abu Dhabi Total World Rally Team line-up, and he’ll be back for another handful of outings in 2018.
