Al Ketbi’s rally career began on home ground with a one-off appearance at the Dubai round of the 2003 FIA Middle East Rally Championship.
He tackled three MERC rounds in 2004 alongside co-driver Khaled Al-Kendi, and over the next four seasons the pair established themselves as championship front runners, first in an N4 spec Mitsubishi, then a Subaru Impreza and latterly, from 2010 onwards, a Skoda Fabia S2000.
Al Ketbi made his WRC debut at the 2011 Jordan Rally, where he won the MERC classification. He was runner up in the MERC that year. For 2012, and now with backing from Skydive Dubai, his focus switched to Europe and he tackled a mixed programme of IRC and and German championship rounds alongside new German co-driver Karina Hepperle.
A full WRC2 season followed in 2013, as did a terrifying crash on Rally de Portugal when he lost control of his Skoda Fabia S2000 and launched it 230 metres down the side of a mountain. In the market for a new car, he switched to a Fiesta R5 for the last four rallies of the season.
