The Italian started his rally career in 2007 in his home country after many years in karting. He was selected as a Pirelli Star Driver and contested the WRC Academy in 2011, as well as driving for Citroën Italia.

Crugnola won the Citroën Trophy in Italy the following year and the Italian Junior title in 2013, before progressing to the European Championship in 2014 in a Peugeot 208. He was second in the junior category and third in the two-wheel drive standings.

In 2015 Crugnola piloted a Renault Clio RS R3T to fourth in WRC 3 before switching his attentions to the Junior WRC for 2016. He had a disappointing campaign and tackled only three rounds, but steps up to WRC 2 in 2017 in a Ford Fiesta R5.
