As early as 1999 Bernardo Sousa showed an interest in motorsport and was a keen karter before testing in Formula BMW and Formula
Renault. But in 2006 he decided his future lay in rallying and he tackled the Madeira Championship for two seasons to learn
In 2008 Sousa entered the PWRC and took a fine second in the Acropolis Rally, but the following year was disappointing and
in a Fiat Abarth Punto S2000 he finished only two of his six outings. He switched to a Ford Fiesta S2000 in 2010 and his luck
changed. He took three outright wins to lift the Portuguese title and finished eighth in SWRC.
An even better 2011 brought victory in Jordan and second in Greece as he finished fourth in SWRC Ð and Sousa also drove a
World Rally Car for the first time in his home rally.
Lack of budget hindered his career in 2012, but last season he returned to the Portuguese championship and finished third
after three wins.
